Empowerment and Development Programs
Summer Camps: Our summer camp program for children and youth begins with a welcoming BBQ event, setting a festive tone to kick off the season. Throughout the camp, participants enjoy a blend of educational and recreational activities, including outdoor sports, arts and crafts, and team-building exercises, all designed to foster physical activity and social bonding. In addition to life skills training sessions focusing on communication, problem-solving, leadership, and teamwork, we offer unique opportunities such as hairdressing and haircuts, ensuring holistic care and grooming. Educational trips to museums, nature reserves, and historical sites expand their knowledge and enhance their learning experience. The program culminates with an end-of-camp BBQ celebration, providing a joyful conclusion where children, youth, and families come together to celebrate achievements and forge lasting memories
Ushanga Program: Empowering Girls, Stringing Together Beautiful Beads of Meaningful Change is a transformative program dedicated to supporting and empowering young girls. Through interactive sessions covering topics like positive self-talk, healthy relationships, confidence building, grooming and self-care, and literacy as a tool for empowerment, the program equips girls with the skills and knowledge to navigate various challenges, including violence against women. By fostering self-expression, resilience, and community support, “Ushanga” empowers girls to advocate for themselves and others, creating a brighter future free from violence and discrimination.
Digital Literacy Empowering: Our digital literacy program not only focuses on safety planning for GBV survivors but also integrates digital skills for learning and recreation. Participants learn essential digital competencies such as navigating online platforms, using productivity tools, and accessing educational resources effectively. We encourage the exploration of digital content creation, coding, and digital storytelling, fostering creativity and innovation.
Soccer Program: FLRC utilizes soccer as a trauma-informed response to GBV through its soccer program, focusing on physical health and teamwork development via regular training sessions and matches. Our approach not only promotes physical well-being but also fosters a supportive environment that empowers survivors of GBV. Our program provides a structured outlet for emotional expression, builds confidence and resilience, and cultivates essential life skills such as teamwork, communication, and leadership.
AHOFAMA: The “Ahofama – GBV Boys Mentorship Program” integrates a Young Men’s Mentorship Program, designed to address the issue of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) while providing guidance and positive role models for young men. By fostering personal development, leadership skills, and healthy relationships, this component aims to empower young men to become advocates against GBV and champions for gender equality. Through mentorship and education on the impact of GBV, the program equips young men with the knowledge and tools to recognize, prevent, and combat violence within their communities, promoting well-being and fostering positive change.
The Salvation Army Family Life Resource Centre (FLRC) is an emergency short term shelter in the Brampton area for women and their children escaping partner violence.
